Catching up with Army Veteran Pamela!
You might remember Pamela’s story from a few years ago. Thanks to you, she transitioned from homelessness to a secure place at Manchester Apartments. Since then, Pamela has found true stability, living independently and only needing support from the food pantry to supplement her basic needs and keep her fridge stocked for when her grandchildren visit.
Recently, we caught up with her, and she shared more about her incredible journey and the success she’s achieved thanks to you.
Pamela, an Army veteran and former Military Police Officer, has always embodied resilience and a heart dedicated to serving others. Her military career took her across the globe, from Alabama to Germany and beyond!
After leaving the military, Pamela transitioned to civilian life, believing her skills as a military police officer, supporting others and working closely with people, would guide her path. However, life brought her unexpected challenges, and Pamela found herself in a difficult situation she never anticipated.

The transition to civilian life became more daunting over time, leading to financial instability. Without a stable place to call home, Pamela moved from couch to couch, feeling increasingly lost and defeated.
But Pamela’s story didn’t end there. Thanks to you, Pamela found hope when she needed it most. A family connection pointed her toward HVAF, and from the moment she connected with the organization, her life began to change.
You were there to open the door for Pamela, offering her immediate relief with safe and secure housing, moving her off the streets into Manchester Apartments.
Within days, she had a roof over her head—and a renewed sense of possibility. Once housed at Manchester Apartments, HVAF’s incredible team of case managers worked tirelessly to secure the resources Pamela needed to rebuild her life including getting her VA benefits and service-connected within just 90 days.
The most exciting chapter came soon after, after a few short months, Pamela moved out of Manchester into her own home, a milestone she thought was out of reach!
You covered Pamela’s first month’s rent, her security deposit, and even helped furnish her space with essentials like a queen-sized pillow-top mattress, giving her not just a home, but comfort.
Beyond housing, your generosity ensured Pamela had access to HVAF’s food pantry, which empowers veterans to select items based on their needs and preferences, allowing her to choose culturally meaningful foods and seasonings that made her feel at home again.
Today, Pamela shares her story to inspire others, encouraging struggling veterans to take that brave first step and seek help, because she knows that you will be there to offer support.
“To everyone who supports HVAF, thank you for thinking of us. We need help sometimes, but everyone does, so we appreciate you. People often say to veterans, ‘thank you for your service,’ but I want to say THANK YOU for your service.”
You have filled Pamela’s life with hope, stability, and opportunity once. Her story is a powerful reminder that behind every veteran’s success is a community of compassionate supporters like you. Thank you for changing lives and making stories like Pamela’s possible.
