Employee Spotlights Are Listed Below:
Apr-Jun (2007) Employee
Lindsay R. She received her Bachelors Degree in Psychology (Bellarmine Univ.), Master Degree in Social Work (I.U.), and LCSW and has worked for HVAF since November of 2004. She works with the REST and Healthcare for Homeless Veterans programs. Her favorite John Wesley quote sums up the drive and perseverance that Lindsay displays daily. That quote reads: "Do all the good you can, by all the means you can, in all the ways you can, in all the places you can, at all the times you can, to all the people you can, as long as ever you can." As Lindsay said, "some people see social services work as draining but it does the opposite for me. It fills me with a sense of compassion and understanding, and gives me a renewed appreciation for the unfailing strength of the human spirit."
Jan-Mar (2007) Employee
Eric D. He received his Bachelors in Social Work in 1999 and went on to receive his Masters in Social Work in 2002. He also holds three addiction certifications. Before working for HVAF he served as a counselor for various other service organizations. An unfortunate part of his past is that he lost his biological father to alcoholism. "I have been in recovery for over eight years and appreciate the opportunity to help empower others in finding a new way of life. My position enables me to do this on a daily basis. I take great pride in this program. The disease of addiction has no known cure, but it can be arrested." As Eric's good friend Charlo stated, "These are not bad people trying to be good; these are sick people trying to get well."
Oct-Dec (2006) Employee
Earma A. Miss Earma has been with HVAF for five years. She spent two years at the foundation, four months at VOA and two years six months at The Freedom Center. Even though her job title is Officer Manager she is a jack-of-all-trades, handling everything from issuing medications to serving as a sounding board for the veterans. Not one to talk about her accomplishments, she prefers instead to remain behind the scenes. Her proudest moment is when she sees her veterans years later and they still call her Miss Earma, and say "Thank you for everything you do." According to Miss Earma, "Spiritually working with veterans helped me in so many ways...they help me remember where I came from."
Jul-Sep (2006) Employee
Lynda C. "In 2003 a friend asked is I had heard of the REST Program at The Freedom Center, I had not. He told me about the numbers of homeless veterans in Indianapolis and that he was interested in putting together a motorcycle ride to raise money for this program. As an American, I was shocked that this was happening to our veterans and decided to do what I could to help. I came to work for HVAF's REST Program in October of 2004. One of the great things about working for HVAF are my coworkers. They are caring people who share a commitment to help."
Apr-Jun (2006) Employee
Nancy L. She started working for HVAF in June of 2005 as Director of Programs and Services. Her office is located at The Freedom Center. In this position she is responsible for the clinical supervision of HVAF Programs. The largest responsibility she has is managing The Freedom Center. The Freedom Center is a residential center which must be operable 24-hours a day, every day. "It runs smoothly thanks to the motivated and dedicated staff. The course of a day can vary widely in my role at HVAF" says Nancy. "It can be anything from handling a crisis such as a broken pipe to mediating a disagreement between residents. Each day requires patience and tenacity, but at the end of the day, it is the most rewarding work I have ever had the privilege to do."
Apr-May (2006) Employees
Ron and Tina S. Husband and wife, Tina and Ron both started working for HVAF in the winter of 2005. Ron is the Director of Operations and Maintenance and has made an exceptional difference to the walls of the HVAF building, literally. He is responsible for all renovations and for the maintenance and renovation of HVAF's supportive housing units. His renovation of the Udell Street housing unit saved HVAF over $800,000! Ron also manages out Veterans Services Center, which provides food, clothing, furniture, shelter, transportation and personal hygiene items. Tina is the Volunteer Coordinator, overseeing all volunteers and engaging them in the work and mission of HVAF. "I am happy to be a part of HVAF because it gives me a sense of satisfaction and fulfillment when I know I am helping someone who fought for my freedom," says Tina.
